Yes, I offer a one hour free consultation for anyone interested in having harp music at their wedding. If you currently live outside of Louisville, KY and are not able to meet with me in person prior to the event, I have a demo CD I will send, free of charge, that includes samples of the most popular wedding music along with a few other selections exclusive to the harp.

Can you play my favorite song or theme from my favorite movie?
In most cases, yes. If the music can be found for piano or other instrument, then I usually can transcribe it for the harp With the extensive collection of printed music available, it is very rare that a certain song can not be found.

Can the harp be used for all of the music at my wedding ceremony, including the bridal march?
Yes. Harps are an eloquent and beautiful part of a wedding ceremony and can be used for all the different events and moods during a ceremony. They can be soft and serene for the seating of the parents and entrance of the bridal party, or louder and more upbeat for the entrance of the bride or the recessional.

Do you perform with other musicians?
Yes. Although harp is wonderful as a solo instrument, some may wish to have the harp with another instrument such as violin, cello, flute, or voice Often times, the bride or groom will have a friend that is a vocalist or instrumental musician and will want them to perform with the harp at the wedding I also have a group of musicians I perform with that may include violin, cello, organ, piano, flute, trumpet, or voice (subject to availability).

Does the harp need to be amplified by a microphone / sound system?
Generally, no The harp is a resonating instrument that in most cases carries sound very well through large rooms, churches, halls and small outdoor events Microphones may be helpful in certain outdoor events and/or very large indoor events with excess noise or background conversation If you choose to have the harp amplified, you will need to provide the necessary equipment.

I can’t afford to purchase a harp right now, but I want to begin lessons. Are there any options for me?
Yes, Vanderbilt Music Company offers a rent-to-own program that allows you to rent a harp for four months, with no obligation to purchase. This “trial period” gives you time to make a decision about whether or not you truly want to invest in a harp. At the end of four months, if you decide to purchase the harp, all the money you have already paid for rent will be applied to the purchase price.
If this option is still too much of a stretch financially, some students will begin playing on a small lap harp—usually priced around a few hundred dollars—until they can afford a larger lever or pedal harp. With this option, students can still learn the basic techniques and/or note-reading skills that will be used on any harp. Quality lap harps are available from www.traditionalharps.com and www.harpsicleharps.com. NOTE: There are many lap harps available that unfortunately are not worth purchasing as they do not stay in tune, having buzzing sounds when you pluck the strings, and generally hinder the students ability to progress. If you choose to begin on a lap harp, it is important to purchase a quality harp that will not cause such a frustration.
